About YMI Dancing
Young Movement Incorporated Dancing is a youth dance company, established in 1991 by Pia Bouman, Artistic Director. Its mandate is:
To give students who wish for the opportunity to grow as performers a chance to do so in a company setting.
Weekly, all YMI members and apprentices take part in company class and learn company repertoire. All enjoy the opportunity to work with invited dance artists on new choreography which is performed in the annual Spring show in April/May. Our 2020 and 2021 shows were cancelled due to Covid.
Members interested in working on their own choreography are welcome to submit a proposal. If their proposal is accepted, they will have the unique chance to work with some of their peers. Each student choreography is performed at the choreographic sharing in the Winter season and possibly at the annual Spring show.
YMI Dancing performs at Street Festivals around the city and gives outreach performances at Public Schools and senior homes.
The company has enjoyed the creative talent of professional performers such as Julia Aplin, Susie Burpee, Maxine Heppner, Julia Male, Malgorzata Nowacka, Meagan O'Shea, Andrea Spaziani, Larissa Taurins, and Darryl Tracy.
YMI provides an exciting opportunity for students to learn different dance techniques and vocabulary and thus grow as young dance artists.
